Memorial Day

Today we remember those loved and lost in service to our country. I am lucky enough to have not lost any family or friends to war, but my thoughts are with those who have. On Memorial Day I always think of my grandfather, who fought in the Air Force during World War II. My family was blessed that he made it home to raise his family, and pass away years later doing what he loved. My grandmother, now passed, kept many mementos from his time of service. My father has letters and newspaper clippings she saved from all those years ago; my sister and I each have a bag of his from the war. While I did not know him as a soldier, I know it shaped who he was and am grateful that I was able to learn about it through keepsakes and stories.

Who do you remember on this day?

An evening to myself

Alex is at a game convention with people from his work, so I have the evening to myself! I have a whole list of things I should be doing, but all I really want is...
Of course, I can't really sleep during the day, so that option is pretty much closed. I would do this...
if it weren't for the whole cockroach situation last night. (THREE cockroaches in my bathroom. Ew.) Maybe instead I'll go for one of these...
cook an easy yet delicious veggie dinner...
and snuggle up to watch a movie with this sweet little guy...
That sounds like a good plan...=)

Monster Drawings

A few months ago, I came across Stefan G. Bucher's Daily Monster. It inspired me. I had given up on drawing monsters a long time ago, but then I realized my problem. I was trying to draw scary monsters, and I don't like scary things >_< What I needed to try was a monster in my own style. So I practiced until I came up with some I liked :)
These are one style I really like (similar to the style of some of my other illustrations). I've also developed a couple other styles I like too :-) I'm really just glad that I can draw monsters now!! I don't want to have anything I "can't" draw!

Just thought I'd share!

Busy Saturday, Take 5

I'm so happy it's the weekend!
And it's going to be a productive one :D

This morning is taking care of the dogs (we're dog-sitting for my honeymooning sister) and blogging. Have you checked the Birds of a Feather blog lately? Today I did a post - The Colors of New Orleans - that I'm really proud of :D You should go check it out ;)

After this, I'm going to bike [yay for bike rides!] over to meet Renee to talk about Craft Academy :D:D:D I'm sooo excited! You can click on the icon in the sidebar to sign up for the newsletter. Registration will open soon, and classes start next month!!! It's gonna be good.

Then it'll be back home. This is the first Saturday in months that the hubby and I can spend at home together. ^_^ It'll be an afternoon full of laundry, cleaning, and projects, but at least we'll be with each other! Aside from chores, my main goals for today are finishing up some new headbands for the shop and working on my website! The design is done, I just need to implement it.

And tonight I'm babysitting and then going to a housewarming party :-) This is seriously an awesome day. What do you have planned?

On a Personal Note

I know I get tired and down when stressed, but I didn't realize just how much my job was affecting me until I went away last weekend. The administration doesn't care about their employees, and in turn the employees complain. While it's definitely not the worst job I've had, it is the most negative. But I'm an optimistic person! So, having taken a small break, I've reset myself :D I would like to say:
It's not the way I want to be, so I won't be that way any more ^_^ This weekend I'm going to kick my job-searching into high gear! If anyone knows of a good job opening in Austin, let me know ;) Hopefully I'll finally get my new website design up, and apply to several jobs! AND, with my new-found energy, I'll be finishing my new products and updating the shop. Wish me luck!
It's going to be a great weekend!

Etsy Finds: Rings

Alex has been telling me for a while now that he's more than happy to buy me jewelry to replace the cheap stuff I've always had. (Yes, I'm the stingy one in this relationship!) We actually bought our wedding rings from TitaniumKnights, an awesome Etsy shop! We even recommended them to Alex's sister, who is now a happy customer as well :) So, I was inspired to look across Etsy for some pretty rings! Here are a few I found:

Don't you just love them alllll?!

New Orleans

Friday night in New Orleans, my sister's bachelorette party (she's asked me not to post any photos, so here's a street sign, and my lovely husband):
Sight-seeing, including the French Quarter (where we stayed), Jackson Square, and beignets from Cafe du Monde (yum):

But of course the main event was the wedding :)
The above pictures are: My beautiful sister; Alex's cuff-links (a gift from our best friends); the jazz band playing for the bride and groom (amazing); my brother (he does exist!); the happy couple about to cut the cake; and a photo I managed to snag of the hubby and me!

It was a whirlwind mini-vacation! I was very glad to spend time with my family this weekend and to see such a rich city :)
