Scenic Embroidery
I just finished this yesterday and I am super excited about it! I completely love it and can't wait to get it in the shop. I made sure to use a slightly different stitch for each element and I'm really happy with the result. Once I get it framed and set I'll upload some detail pics!
I'm already planning a new series :D It's combining two of my loves and it's going to be awesome.

Busy Saturday, Take 6
Today is another busy Saturday! I woke up refreshed and still excited after the Etsy Craft Party last night :) So I immediately got to work. I started off making some sunglasses and iPhone/iPod cases. [I have a few ideas for screenprinting, so I'm trying out some sewing projects to decide what to screenprint :)] I had already cut the fabric for them - gray felt matched with several fun prints - and was ready to sew. Whew, was sewing all that felt tricky! It was mainly problematic because they were small cases and they were lined nicely (meaning all the seams are hidden between the fabrics). But I think they turned out ok:
Hm...I have a lot of sunglasses...well, only one pair wasn't pictured. Hee :D But now they won't get scratched up! Yay! After I finished those up, Alex and I ran errands...it took quite a while. We even went by Central Market and got lots of organic goodness :d AND he bought me these pretties:
Gotta love a husband who'll buy you flowers ;) When we got home I made fruit salad! Yum yum
We're having some friends over later, so it'll be a good snack :D I'm hoping I can go for my run before they get here...We started the Couch to 5K program (with the help of the awesome c25k app). I've only done it twice, but I really like it so far! It'll be so awesome if I can keep it up and actually run a 5K by the end of the summer!!
In other news, Craft Academy starts Tuesday!!! I can't believe it. If you haven't signed up yet, you really should. We're going to be making our favorite crafts all summer long! Plus live chats, giveaways (if I can bear to part with the cuteness, that is!), and special little bonuses here and there ;) I'm just super excited :D:D:D

Monster Drawings
A few months ago, I came across Stefan G. Bucher's Daily Monster. It inspired me. I had given up on drawing monsters a long time ago, but then I realized my problem. I was trying to draw scary monsters, and I don't like scary things >_< What I needed to try was a monster in my own style. So I practiced until I came up with some I liked :)
These are one style I really like (similar to the style of some of my other illustrations). I've also developed a couple other styles I like too :-) I'm really just glad that I can draw monsters now!! I don't want to have anything I "can't" draw!
Just thought I'd share!

Granny Squares!
This weekend I was inspired again by granny squares. Have you read my post over on the Birds of a Feather blog? It's full of creative ideas for using granny squares, and I added a couple links so you can make your own ^_^ After doing the whole post, I found enough time to learn myself! (Yay for babysitting :D) I made my first granny square!!!!
How fun :D Let's just say this attempt was far more successful than my first - inside a car, at night, tutorial on my phone - haha! For a while now I've had some ideas for new products for my shop, but first I needed to learn to make these beautiful little guys :) I'm already working on new projectssss!!!! Look for them soon ;)

Panda Apron!
I had sooo much fun making this for my girlfriend! She requested it when I signed up for Style School, so I made it for her for her birthday :) I used this awesome fabric I found - blue with white stars (because I love stars!!), along with a cerulean cotton and blue and light purple felts. The face is backed with felt, the bottom is doubled. I embroidered the face and ears by hand. I crocheted the neck and waist bands with a dark blue to match the felt. The neck band is attached with buttons (so it's adjustable); the waistband is attached with two loops. Hopefully she'll send me pics of herself in it soon, but in the mean time this is what I have!
Panda face!!!!!! hehe ^_^

Thursday Threads #9
In honor of Earth Day, I did a very special Thursday Threads! First of all, I wore my green dress, my blue butterfly necklace, and my Simple shoes (with white knee highs). Then I made my 'drawing' completely out of leftover paper scraps from my classroom. Yay recycling! (I also included my Klean Kanteen in the picture ^_^) I hope you like it!

You Are So Warped.
(Or: How to reuse an old canvas)
(Or: How to make a stenciled painting)
(Or: How to make a stenciled painting)
A couple years ago I made a flower painting out of boredom to lighten up my room. After moving in with Alex, it managed to make it onto the wall in our apartment here. After looking at it for this long, I got tired of it. But why just throw it away? Instead, I decided to reuse the canvas! I turned the flower painting into my new "You Are So Warped" stenciled painting:
First things first, I had to get the canvas white. You could use a color of paint you like, or skip this step if your original painting will work for the background! I decided to use gesso. I had actually stretched the canvas myself, and hadn't gessoed the sides, so I thought it was time :) Because the original painting was textured, I used the thick gesso to smooth it out as well. However, I let some of the texture come through to add a little dimension to my new painting.
Once the gesso dried, it was time to get out the stencils! I used a ruler and pencil to make guidelines, laying out my stencils for spacing. Most stencils come with holes to use as guides. I spaced mine a little off from these, because they seemed a bit uneven :-/ But the holes help make sure your letters are aligned. The most important thing is to make sure all your letters fit where you want them before you start!
All the letters set? Time to mix the paint! YAY! I love mixing paint! I used white, yellow, and blue to make a bright green that we use in accents around our apartment [It happens to be our wedding color!]. I chose to use a bright color on white, but of course you could use multiple colors :)
Time to fill in the stencils! You could tape them down, but I didn't bother :P The middles of the stencils will come up too, unless you use double-sided tape. I just tried to hold them them down while painting. Of course there will be small slip-ups! Don't worry, I'll tell you how to fix them ;)
When you've got them all done, GO WASH YOUR PAINT BRUSH! Just in case you were thinking about leaving it ;) Now, look through your letters. See any mistakes? That's ok. I used two methods to fix mine. First I used an X-Acto knife (one of my favorite tools, btw) to scrape off some of the unnecessary paint. Then I went back and covered any other mistakes with white paint. It took a couple coats to cover the green.
Much better! Now take a step back and admire your reused-canvas, stenciled painting! How lovely! Now go take pictures and leave me a link so I can see ;D
[In case you are curious, my mom once said this to me, jokingly, and I thought it was hilarious. Her reaction to the painting: "Surely I never said that!" ;)]

Busy Saturday, again
Saturday was crazy busy again! I worked on some new ACEOs, which was awesome. I can't show some of them, because they are on the way to recipients ;) But here are a couple new ones:
I really just wanted to draw all day, but things needed to be done! Before I could meet my hubby for lunch (which was wonderful!), I had to run by the Post Office to drop off three envelopes for ACEO swaps! [I may have to organize a larger ACEO swap some time ;)] I had fun decorating the packages:
After lunch with the hubby, I went by Kick Butt Coffee to see if it would be a suitable place for Knit for a Cause (Tuesday, March 16 - you should come!). I think it'll work out. I wanted somewhere a little north, to make it easier on people coming from that direction. I just need to call and talk to the manager tomorrow :) AND I contacted a few local yarn shops to see if they'll donate. Should know soon!
Then I got to photograph products and upload my GIVEAWAY post! Make sure you enter :)
Of course, I still have a long list of things to do! I've got laundry, a workout, lots of stuff for Etsy Austin, and this embroidery that doesn't seem to want to embroider itself...
Anyway, I hope you had a fun and productive/relaxing (whichever works for you) Saturday! Until next time, Moxy and I bid you farewell!

New ACEOs
I finished a whole bunch of new ACEOs! I am very excited to announce that they are now in the shop! I tried two different types of paper, and I'm still experimenting. For those of you who have done your own, what's your favorite type of paper to use?
I hope they aren't too cheesey >_< I just had fun with them. Generally I think that's the way to go ;)

Torch, Mustard, and Fuzzy.
Check out my latest huggles! They all make me happy in different ways.
Torch is awesome like a volcano.
Fuzzy has the most awesome ears since Dumbo.
And there are more in my shop! They all have their own little personalities. Can't wait to get started on more :) Which is your favorite?
